Mistletoe Market

Mistletoe Market

This is a really lovely market in Blenheim and well worth the drive if you are looking for Xmas gifts. I did a quick walk around and saw some amazing stands, especially Xmas decorations that were stunning.

We packed up our van (still un-named) threw in our mattress and duvet and were off. Shumba wanted to come.

True to form, we decided to take a long drive there. It's only 1 1/2 hours drive from Nelson to Blenheim over the Whangamoa mountain range, but we took 4 hours.

First up was a walk. Someone had told us about the Emerald Pools. Being summer, we thought a swim was on the cards. Little did we know that this swim would first entail a 45 minute drive on a dirt road which is amongst farms and follows the river. And then an hours walk to the Emerald Pools.

The colour of this water is emerald green.  If you want to, you can make your way down to the river by the bridge instead of hiking the rest of the way. It's an easy walk and we had brought some of our delicious biltong for along the way.

Once we got there, with only the birds singing away, we decided to be practical and not get our swimming costumes (togs) wet. So stripped off and skinny dipped. What an amazing swim! I found the water to be delicously cool. Kyle found it a wee bit cold, as I could see. And the sand flies seem to love him. He was doing the macarena while taking these photos.

Last time I skinny dipped was in Malawi in 1997 late at night as we needed to feel clean. Next morning we discovered the pool was green.

Kyle getting dressed and fighting the sand flies.

We decided to eat lunch at Pelorous at a spot we had had a picnic years before. We love a good view. And I ended up doing some promotional shots for our Adventure Packs which also have biltong in them.

Lunch for two in front of a majestic view. Pelourous Bridge.

Our campsite for the night.

These ducklings loved my Dry Wors. Lucky buggers.

Took me about 50 shots on my stomach to get this one usable one.

Promo shot for our amazing Adventure snack packs full of Biltong, Dry Wors. Our others have smoked nuts, dried fruit, chocolate, miso, crackers, Pics peanut butter and biltongs. Everything you need for a tramp or picnic. See, promo over.,

As well as buying something to eat from one of the many food carts you can buy products that aren't too big to carry home and will travel well. Wonderful craft cheeses, smoked fish and hand-crafted cured meats will be fine as long as you keep them cool in a chilly bin or chill bag.
