An exhausting but mentally beneficial 4 day trip.
We left Nelson and stopped just outside town to eat our lunch. Can't beat these views.
We set up that afternoon, all prepared for 3 days of indoor trade at the Stadium 2000. Nice to be indoors for a change, especially as it rained all Sunday.
We had joined forces with Kaikoura Cheese and Stephens Onions so had one long row instead of being in cubicles. Kyle rigged up our slicer, we hung our biltong and the show was on. We were there to promote our new Subscription Boxes and Fresh is Best.
Kyle sliced and bagged and I sold and chatted away. I love meeting all these interesting people with different stories. Especially the ones of how the biltong they usually eat is so different to ours. Yes, its wrong. Dry, chewy, tasteless. Biltong should be fresh, tender, and very tasty.
Also got to hang out with so many of our fellow stallholders that we knew and make new friends that I know we will bump into along the line. One of the things I love about markets and fairs. Such an amazing community of like minded people. And some weirdos. But I love them too.
As its still too cold to throw the mattress in the back of the van and camp, we booked into an Air BnB house and what an unexpected gem it was. 10 minutes drive out of the Blenheim CBD, we were met with a beautiful room, feather pillows and duvet, robes for the jacuzzi and a fresh loaf of bread for breakfast every morning. And this time around, I was well prepared. I had precooked all our meals to just heat up. No more driving around a town you are unfamiliar with, wanting something decent to eat thats not going to cost a fortune, or getting upset tummies as it wasn't that well prepared or had gluten in it when they said it didn't.
Our menu came from my home meals cooked weeks before. Vietnamese pork and rice, Lamb shanks and chicken with the lamb shank gravy with mashed potatoes; Cinnamon and kumara chicken stew with mash. Went down well after a jacuzzi and some red wine.
After Sunday we were so tired and the weather was so bad. Not wanting to make our daughters orphans we decided to stay another night and just relax. Was a good call. Came back re-energised and ready for more production and to get ready for our Hamner trip.
